After contacting several helicopter charter companies, the only one that really caught my attention due to their honesty, useful information, and cost were the people at heli experiences. I had a specific brief in mind and that was to photograph the Melbourne skyline up close and from several angles. Darcy, at heli experiences, explained to me exactly what I could and couldn't do, gave me a pretty honest and accurate weather forecast for best results, and didn't try to upscale me to a more expensive machine because of the nature of work I was doing. I was pretty pleased with that especially after another operator told me I had no choice but to go with a jet ranger, which was double the price of the Robinson 44.

My pilot on the day, Guy, was very professional and thorough with safety briefs, the parameters in which we could work, and my photographic needs. I felt very safe and confident in his control and the result of my work were better than I expected because of it. We completed the task within time, within budget, and with a very satisfied customer at the end of the day.

The level of service before, during and even after the flight was outstanding. ( Guy gave me a lift to the airport for my flight back to Sydney. That's VIP service )

So I heard about this helicopter service doing circuits of Melbourne and taking you over the city's finest sporting venues, doing singles flights and other irregular things not traditionally done in helicopters!

I had discounted the idea however as I am scared of heights and thought better of such decadence. Well..

I organised a Heliexperience for my fiancé, my father and myself, against my mind's better judgement, given Helicopter's have a habit of getting rather high, and can honestly say it blew me away. I paid a little extra for Guy (our pilot) to head out to our holiday home whilst covering the traditional sites and coastline. Having only moved to Melbourne 4 years ago, the experience offered a totally different perspective of the city and has changed my perception of this rather indulgent means of transport.

My "scared of heights" issue- gone. Not even a stomach rumble. The flight was actually smoother than the majority of the cab rides I have taken during my 4 years in Melbourne. The opportunity to "chopper" down to the beach house (2 hours out of Melbourne), crack open a bottle of Veuve and fly back, all in the space of a couple of hours - priceless.
